A blend of 81% Tempranillo and 19% Mazuelo (Cariñena). The choice of such an amount of Mazuelo is probably the most conrtroversial aspect of this wine. It is made from grapes picked from a single parcel 485 meters above sea level called La Plana on Marques de Murrieta’s Finca Ygay estate. The grape varieties were picked over a month apart and fermented separately. The Tempranillo was matured in American oak and the Mazuelo in French oak barriques for 26 months. It is aged for a minimum of three years at the winery before release and is immensely age-worthy. The only vintages released so far this century have been 2000, 2001, 2004, 2005, 2007 & 2009. Ygay is a refined, classic and world-class wine. It will not disappoint.
