Pichon-Lalande is a second-growth vineyard in Pauillac. It is known as a “super-second” to suggest that it is a producer that might be promoted to first growth (premier cru classé) in the (remote) event of a re-classification of Bordeaux’s estates. This estate is known for a tendency to include a touch more Merlot in their grand vin leaving it less tannic and more approachable in its youth. In the best years it is one of the most perfumed and opulent wines of the commune. This wine is starting to drink well, and will keep for at least three decades from the vintage.
