Château Rauzan Ségla Margaux 2009

Château Rauzan Ségla is located just a stone’s throw from the village of Margaux, consisting of a patchwork of vineyards reflecting the diversity of soils. Largely made up of alluvial gravel, the terrior is ideally suited to viticulture and features perfect drainage. It also reflects the best that each grape variety has to offer.

With roots as far back as 1661, Rauzan-Segla quickly acquired a fine reputation at home and abroad. This was confirmed by Second Growth status in the 1855 classification. The estate was purchased in 1994 by top fashion house Chanel whereby the same attention to detail is upheld in both the wine and the perfume. No expense is spared in producing the finest wine imaginable.

The vineyards are largely planted with Cabernet Sauvignon with Merlot following close behind and Cabernet Franc & Petit Verdot used as nuances in the final blend.

This expression of Rauzan-Segla is 59% Cabernet Sauvignon, 36% Merlot, 3.5% Petit Verdot, and 1.5% Cabernet Franc. The growing season and harvest in this vintage were like an echo of 2005’s magnificent conditions. The wine was aged in 50% new French oak with a medium toast for 18 months. The wine was bottled with no filtration after racking every three months. The result is a magnificent, opaque, and intensely aromatic wine that shows blackberry and plum fruit characteristics along with cedar cinnamon sticks, and clove. Delicious and beautiful drinking for at least thirty years from the vintage.
