Château Canon La Gaffelière Saint-Émilion 2015

Since 1971 Canon la Gaffeliere has been under the ownership of Count Joseph Hubert von Neipperg. Today, Stephan von Neipperg owns and manages the 19.5 hectare vineyards with characteristic Germanic precision. Stephan has converted the estate totally to organic viticulture (fully certified since 2014) and practices biodynamics throughout. This low-intervention, high sustainability breeds total purity in the wines produced.

The wine, unusually for Bordeaux, is matured in a high proportion of new French oak. Often 100% new oak, however the 2009 was matured in 55% new French oak on lees for 17 months. It is made from 55% Merlot, 38% Cabernet Franc & 7% Cabernet Sauvignon from vines with an average age of 50 years.

The Canon la Gaffeliere 2015 is full bodied and powerful with lots of ripe black fruit, concentrated savoury nuances with coffee and plum flavours. It has a pleasantly lifted mineral quality adding finesse and elegance to the overall profile, balancing the heft of the tannins and body. It  is long and smoky in the finish.

This is a top class wine from this Premier Grand Cru Classe ‘B’ certified Chateau.
