Albert Bichot are lucky enough to own this single-vineyard Domaine in Nuits-Saint-Georges. The Pinot Noir vineyards at Chateau Gris are classified as 1er Cru vineyards. Since there is no 1er Cru appellation for white wines in Nuits-Saint-Georges the white wine can only be classified as a “mere” village-level monopole Nuits St George. This is made just like Bichot’s finest whites from the Cote d’Or. The vineyard is harvested by hand and the wines are fermented in French oak barrels (35% new oak) and left for up to 3 months before laying down and maturing in barrel for a further 14 to 18 months depending on the nature of the vintage.
The resulting wine combines the ripe fruit characters of villages like Meursault and Puligny to some of the citrus fruit and precision of wines from further north (i.e. Chablis) into a racy, forward, and intense wine that is sure to flatter lovers of wines from the more established villages in the region.
