Chateau Lauriga Soleil Blanc Cotes du Roussillon

Swept by the Tramontane wind, the vineyard is planted on the sandy, free-draining soils of the Pliocene hillsides so typical of the Aspres region in Roussillon. The diversity of the Lauriga terroir makes it possible to produce wines with a subtle palette of aromas and flavours. For Chateau Lauriga, caring for the environment by preserving biodiversity is a top priority, as well as looking after the people who work in the vineyard. When the vineyards were restructured in the 1990s, they were replanted in relation to the path of the sun (to optimise the effects of photosynthesis on the complexity of aromas) and also the direction of the Tramontane, to avoid wind damage to the vines.

Wines of Chateau Lauriga are very much treated in a similar way to the Crus of Burgundy, insofar as each individual plot is owned by the same house yet the terrior of each plot is thoroughly respected and produces unique and complex wines. The Soliel Blanc is one such example, a ‘Grand Cru’ white of the Languedoc-Roussillon. Harvested at yields as low as 30 hectolitres per hectare from vines aged 18-45 years old.

Fermentation happens in both steel tank and oak barrels until completion when the wine is racked into new and old oak for a period of 8 months. It is a blend of 85% Grenache Gris and 15% Macabeu which produces a rich white wine with lots of toasted nuts and bread alongside ripe peach and pear flavours. Silky smooth with a textured creamy feel. Delicious with food such as grilled oily fish or white meats like chicken or turkey.
