Chateau Troplong Mondot Saint-Émilion

Chateau Troplong Mondot are a Premier Grand Cru Classe ‘B’ estate with only 26.5 hectares of their 33 hectare estate especially reserved for this, thier Grand Vin. It is an estate that prides itself on being family orientated, if ever you get the chance to visit, they are the warmest and most welcoming of the Grand Cru Classe estates.

Situated on a plateau of 100 metres above sea level, the vines are blessed with maximum exposure to the sun, insuring full phenolic ripeness year on year. viticulture is holistically managed whereby minimal intervention is employed and the use of horse is preferred over that of machine. In the winery it is the polar opposite, since 2007 they were one of the first in the area to use stainless steel tanks in which to vinify. Troplong Mondot even use the Madiran technique of micro-oxygenation to soften tannins in the younger vines of Cabernet Sauvignon. Blending the traditional older vines (the oldest planted in 1926!) with the modern wine making techniques, produces a perfect balance and harmony.

All of this care and attention shows in the wine. Matured for 12-18 months in new and old French oak. The wine shows a very youthful profile, considering it is a decade old already. Lots of liquorice, sweet spices, dark chocolate and earthy tones blend with ripe red and black fruits, tobacco and cedar. This is a very classical wine. Enjoy now, or be patient and be rewarded in another ten years time!
