The ‘Lune d’Argent’ is a stunning white Bordeaux made by top producer Domaine de Chevalier.
Chevalier are based in the Pessac-Leognan area of Bordeaux, most famous for its white wines. However, the Clos de Lunes is a walled vineyard situated in the heart of the largely sweet wine producing region: Sauternes. Unlike the unctuous wines of Sauternes, the Clos de Lunes is bone dry.
Made from 70% Semillon and 30% Sauvignon Blanc this is a classic example of modern style white Bordeaux. The wine has spent 6-7 months ageing on fine lees in 25% old oak barrels and the rest in stainless steel tank. This minimal use of oak ageing lends a gentle touch of weight and texture to the wine. The freshness of the 75% in tank really shines through. Great citrus peel and a stony/steely minerally set of aromatics blends with a complex and delicate palate. This wine shouts freshness, class and style. Good white Bordeaux, like this one, is probably one of the wine world’s best kept secrets. But, shhh, don’t tell anyone!
