The tiny vineyard where the grapes for this wine are grown is one of the most famous in the world. The number of wines produced here is dwarfed by the number of those produced in the neighbouring sites of Le Montrachet, and Batard-Montrachet.
Nevertheless Criots-Batard-Montrachet also has a claim to producing the finest expression of Chardonnay in the world. Indeed, this wine has won the Criots-Batard-Montrachet Trophy, the White Burgundy Trophy, the French White Trophy, the International Chardonnay Trophy, and the Champion White Trophy 2017 – all at the International Wine Challenge – a staggering and almost unfair number of top wine designations.
The lovingly tended grapes are hand-harvested and sorted before being fermented in oak barrels (35-50% new oak, depending on the vintage) and resting for 6 to 8 weeks on fine lees. This wine is then matured in these barrels for 14 to 16 months before selection, blending, and bottling.
It is an extra-ordinarily fine expression of some of the finest white wines in the world.
