The Four Roses Single Barrel is made with a mash bill that is 60% corn (maize) and 35% rye with the balance made up in malted barley. The yeast strain they use in fermentation is their own and promotes lighter fruit characteristics and vanilla, as well as toffee and cream characteristics. It is surprisingly consistent and delicious and tends to show a full-bodied and pleasantly spiced spirit over classic ripe fruit and heady floral aromas of choice bourbon whiskey, as well as vanilla and toffee. It is difficult to generalise because each barrel will yield a spirit that differs slightly in profile from another. The label details which barrel and warehouse each bottle came from.
