Although the producer is based in Vacqueyras this is a convincing expression of Gigondas made from 60% Grenache, and 40% Syrah grown on 50+ year old vines.
The winemaking is quite traditional with fermentation in oak vats and most of the wine aged in large oak foudres. It is perfectly pitched in the sense that it shows more cherry fruit and granite than the Vacqueyras, but remains less perfumed than the Chateauneuf-du-Pape. Lovers of the wines from this Villages will recognise this wine and smile – and it is a wine that is sure to win converts to the wines of the region too.
