Hamilton Russell are without a doubt one of the most iconic producers of top quality Chardonnay in South Africa.
The 2019 had 93% of the wine fermented in Burgundian French oak barrels, 7% in large French oak Foudres. The barrels are an array of new, second and third fill of varying toasting from blonde (light) to medium. This blend of techniques makes for an incredibly complex wine, coupled with ageing in new and old French oak for 9 months brings layers upon layers of flavour.
A tight, mineral wine with length and complexity. Prominent pear and lime fruit aromas and flavours are brought beautifully into focus by a tight line of bright natural acid and a long, dry minerality. An elegant, yet textured and intense wine with a strong personality of both place and vintage.
