Saperavi is an indigenous Georgian grape variety that has red skins and flesh – like Syrah – making it a teinturier or “dyer” grape variety that produces wines with remarkably deep colour. This wine is blended with Cabernet Sauvignon that adds a blackcurrant and herbaceous character to the finished wine as well as the kind of structure to guarantee cellaring potential. This is an excellent introduction to the new wave wines of the former Soviet Union.
