Based in the Marlborough Region, Pa Road is made by the te Pa winery which has a history stemming back almost 800 years. Set up by the MacDonald family whose Maori lineage goes back to 1350, the te Pa estate spreads over 400Ha of vineyards in Marlborough’s Wairau and Awatere regions.
The Riverside Block of Pinot Gris is located on the silt/stone soils by the lower Wairau River. This young block is in its second year of production and produces ripe and generous stone fruit flavours. The fruit was gently pressed in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks and fermented with yeast strains isolated from Alsace. The wine was left on fine lees for 3 months prior to being finished and bottled. It is then blended with 5% of its Alsace counter-part, Gewurztraminer, which adds an extra layer of floral and tropical aromas.
This wine possesses a lovely floral bouquet with honeysuckle, fennel, and lingering spice. The palate is rich and juicy and explodes with flavours of pear and guava leading into a long dry spicy finish.
