Pipers Brook Pinot Noir

Pipers Brook have been making wine north of Launceston, near the Tamar River, since 1974.

The wine industry is thriving throughout the island with production remaining consistent. A combination of climate change and winemaker skill provides healthy harvests year on year. Despite such a booming industry, the 1,320 hectares of vines on the island only accounts for less the 1% of the total plantings for the whole of Australia. A thriving yet tiny industry. However, quality is always in abundance.

This Pinot Noir comes from 40 year old vines where the grapes are de-stemmed and pressed as whole bunches. Thus, helping to preserve the classic characteristics of Pinot Noir. It is then fermented in small open top vats with indigenous “wild” yeasts and cultured yeast. The wine then undergoes lees ageing in French oak barrels for a period of 9 months.

The wine shows lots of raspberry, dark cherry, red currants with subtle spice and forest floor rusticity. Smooth supple tannins and a long juicy finish.
