Plymouth Navy Strength

This is gin bottled at navy strength (57% a.b.v.). It is made with juniper, coriander seed, orange peels, green cardamom, angelica and orris root.

The term Navy Strength, also often referred to as Gunpowder Strength, comes from seafaring days when rum and gin rations were commonplace. To prove the spirit sailors were getting, to ward against counterfit inferior liquor, a small amount of gunpowder would be soaked in the spirit, if it lit it was legit. If not, a forgery. This was also handy when it came to battle, in case of any unwanted spillages, the navy were sure to have something to fire!
