Reserve de la Comtesse Pauillac

Reserve de la Comtesse is the second wine of the second growth Grand Cru Classe producer Pichon Baron Comtesse de Lalande.

In three centuries, only two families have contributed to the worldwide reputation of the chateau and its wines. The first was Pierre de Mazure de Rauzan in the 18th century, it was his daughter that married Jacques de Pichon Longueville, who was also the First President of the Bordeaux Parliament. The Second family to influence this esteemed estate was the wife of the Count of Lalande, Virginie, who took over the management of the estate under the name of Comtesse de Lalande. It is from Virginie that the second wine of Pichon Longueville is named, precisely in her hounour. It was the first “Super Second” to be produced, in 1874. Reserve de la Comtesse was well ahead of the curve. The third family, current owners, Champagne Louis Roederer, acquired the estate in 2007. They aim to perpetuate the excellent work done by their predecessors and to attain the ultimate in quality and prestige.

Relying on the best of traditional and modern methods, Chateau Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande built new winemaking facilities in 2013. Vinification happens entirely in large stainless steel vats, and once malolactic conversion is completed the wine moves to both new and old French oak for 12 months. Predominantly comprised of Cabernet Sauvignon with some Merlot and a dash of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot.

The wine epitomises the remarkable balance of Pauillac, with a silky tannic structure along with an expressive and suave aromatic complexity.
