Rock Ferry are an 100% organic and practicing biodynamic producer from the Central Otago region of New Zealand’s South Island. The Trig Hill is hand harvested from a small 19 hectare vineyard situated in the Bendigo sub-region of Otago.
Rock Ferry specialize in extended aging for all of their wines, only releasing the wines when they are ready to be drunk. This wine is a wonderfully complex example of mature Pinot Gris from one of the New World’s coolest climates. Winemaking here is very much on-trend with lots of funky experiments with extended lees contact, wild ferments, open-topped vatting, oak, steel and concrete egg maturation. This produces a wine with great texture and weight alongside a delicate freshness, minerality and expressive tropical fruits such as papaya and mandarin. Stylistically, this wine is similar to the great Pinot Gris of Alsace and the Alto-Adige.
