Springbank was established in 1828 on the site of Archibald Mitchell’s illicit still. The distillery is now in the hands of Mitchell’s great, great grandson – the fifth generation of the Mitchell family to own and manage Springbank. Being based in Campbeltown, the once proclaimed ‘whisky capital of the world’, many of the methods established then, by past generations, are still applied in the distillery today.
Springbank 18-year-old is truly a classic, full-bodied dram.
Tasting notes:
Nose: Lemon meringue pie, pear skin, olive oil, almonds and digestive biscuits, brininess comes to the fore
Palate: In the background; dried bananas, coconut shavings and butterscotch. The more prominent; carrot cake, treacle and freshly squeezed limes engulf the palate
Finish: Very delicate; liquorice, gingerbread and vanilla, closely followed by mint, vanilla and cream
