Valpolicella is a region made famous by it’s top wine: Amarone. Amarone is a style of wine made from sun-dried grapes, produced in the traditional way, laid out on straw mats in the baking sun of the Veneto region. Ripasso literally means ‘passed over’ which relates to the method of production. The wine used to make Ripasso is passed over the skins used to make Amarone after the initial vinification. This gives the Ripasso wine more texture, weight and flavours echoing that of it’s big brother; dates, prunes, figs and cocoa which blend nicely with the fresher, riper fruits of the Valpolicella such as blueberry, red cherry and damson. Still a full bodied wine with great pedigree and class. Drink now or cellar for another 5+ years.
