Vicentin Blend de Malbec

Vicentin is an Argentine family owned company with many interests. They have been recently making a high-quality set of wines and this is one of them.

In order to make it they employ the services of Paul Hobbs – a wine consulting superstar that has been responsible for producing some of the New World’s most coveted wines such as Catena’s Zapata, and Opus one for Robert Mondavi and Baron Philippe de Rothschild. Blended from multiple vineyard sites: 42% from La Consulta in San Carlos at 1,020 meters above sea level; 27% from Vista Flores in Tunuyan at 1,100 meters a.s.l; 31% from Las Compuertas at 1,090 meters a.s.l. Each vineyard possesses a different personality and therefore style, once blended together they produce an exceptionally complex and nuanced wine. Once fermentation is complete, it spends 9 months in French oak barrels.

The family (and Paul’s) efforts are fully vindicated by this wine, it shows a depth and complexity of flavour that many producers (and consumers seek) but few achieve. The wine opens with very sweet, smooth taste with round, elegant, luscious tannins and traces of red berries, cherries, and ripe plums. The wood stands out perfectly, granting delicate hints of vanilla and chocolate. It has a long-lasting, elegant finish with mature tannins. The aroma, emanating from the fruit, is preserved through fermentation at a never-aggressive, perfect temperature. Really, especially, good.
