The Daftmill 2011 Summer Batch Release was distilled in 2011 and bottled after maturing for over a decade.

This limited-edition release is part of the distillery’s unique seasonal production.

Distillation only happens during the farm’s quieter periods, either in summer or winter.

The Cuthbert family farm grew the barley used for this particular release from the Summer Batch series.

John and Sandy harvested the Publican barley variety from the 43-acre field on the 28th and 29th of August, 2009.

They dried and stored the barley on the farm before malting it in Alloa during the summer of 2010.

They filled the barrels in June, July, and August 2011 and bottled them in September 2023.

The team then matured twenty-seven first-fill barrels, previously used to age bourbon from Clermont Springs distillery in Kentucky, on the upper level of the farm’s dunnage warehouse.

Tasting Notes

With this ageing in ex-bourbon casks, it boasts a smooth, mellow character. On the nose, you’ll find aromas of ripe orchard fruits—apples, pears, and peaches—combined with honeyed sweetness, vanilla, and a hint of citrus. The palate is light and fresh, offering flavours of malted barley, creamy toffee, and subtle floral notes. Gentle oak and a touch of spice round out the flavour, leading to a delicate and lingering finish.

Renowned for its artisanal quality, the Daftmill 2011 Summer Batch Release captures the essence of a handcrafted Lowland whisky, with a beautifully balanced profile of fruitiness, malt, and smooth texture. Bottled at natural cask strength and non-chill filtered, it’s a favourite among collectors and whisky lovers seeking an authentic small-batch release

Daftmill is a farm distillery, owned and operated by the Cuthbert family.

It only runs in the farm’s quiet periods; mid-summer and winter, sometimes producing as few as 100 casks per year.

When not distilling, Francis Cuthbert looks after the estate, growing the malting barley used to make this Lowland whisky.
