Produced only in exceptional years, this wine showcases remarkable depth, elegance, and complexity.
The 2018 vintage is characterised by its elegance and finesse. It boasts a rich bouquet of ripe fruit and then floral notes, followed by a long, smooth finish.
La Grande Année 2018 is a blend of 66% Pinot Noir and 34% Chardonnay. Bollinger sources the Pinot Noir primarily from its vineyards in Verzenay (26%), Aÿ (20%), and Mareuil-sur-Aÿ, while obtaining the Chardonnay from the Grand Cru villages of Chouilly and Cuis.
Bollinger adheres to traditional methods, fermenting this vintage exclusively in old oak barrels. This process enhances the wine’s complexity and ageing potential. After fermentation, the wine spends more than twice the required time ageing on its lees, sealed with natural cork, before being riddled and disgorged by hand. Enjoy it now, or age it in your cellar for years to come.
Aroma:
The initial nose bursts with fresh citrus and Granny Smith apple, enhanced by notes of orchard fruits: white peach, apricot, and mirabelle plum. When aerated, fresh almond comes through amid aromas of breadcrumbs and acacia honey. This aromatic harmony is organised around a beautiful central theme. Citrus and mineral notes mingle with a delicate touch of white peony.
Palate:
A structured and balanced palate, revealing notes of stewed fruit and quince. The texture gradually mellows, offering a creamy effervescence.
