Château Lamourette Sauternes is a boutique family estate dessert wine from the most renowned sweet wine region in Bordeaux.
This tiny Domaine, covering only 10 hectares, is truly an artisanal producer. The producers do everything, from harvesting to vinification, by hand. The vines are on average 40 years old.
It utilises the classic Bordeaux sweet wine blend of Semillon and Sauvignon Blanc grapes affected by Noble Rot – this causes the grapes to become partially raisined and results in a concentration of flavours. Grapes then develop characteristic flavours of dried apricots and marmalade.
The grapes are hand harvested over multiple ‘tries’ and fermented in stainless steel to preserve the fruit profile. The wines then age partly in barrel to add complexity and toast flavours, and partly in tank for varietal freshness. If strict criteria are not met (for example, if the weather one year is not good enough to produce high quality grapes) then no wine will be made that year.
This wine displays complex aromas and flavours of dried mango, marmalade and quince alongside perfectly balancing acidity. Drinking beautifully now and will evolve as the years pass.
Enjoy Château Lamourette Sauternes as a perfect partner to Roquefort or foie gras. For a sweet pairing, it also shines alongside a lemon tart.
