Not all Champagnes are created equal. Deutz do an excellent job of producing consistently good, non-vintage wines. Their vintage wines are unquestionably superior – as well they should be.
This Champagne is an outstanding example. It is full-bodied and flavoured, rich, creamy and biscuity and shows ripe stone fruits and candied citrus peel. The finish is tantalisingly long. Pinot Noir dominates the blend with about one third Chardonnay and a spot of Meunier. The Deutz vintage is matured for a minimum of 5 years on the lees before disgorgement and has huge potential for further development in bottle. That’s if you can resist opening it in the meantime!
