The 2019 release of the Laphroaig Cask Strength 25 Year Old is here. This should be on everyone’s ‘must try’ whisky list.
This uncommonly exquisite 25 year old liquid is a non-chill filtered marriage of sherried, oaky flavours from second fill European Oak Oloroso sherry casks with sweet vanilla notes from American white oak bourbon barrels, bottled at casks strength.
It was then bottled at 51.4% ABV.
Laphroaig Cask Strength 25 Year Old is one of the most unique of all malt whiskies. The exceptional character of this expression makes this a whisky truly worth savouring. Enjoy neat, or with a little water. This releases a rich aroma of peat smoke with some sweetness and strong hints of the sea.
Laphroaig is an acquired taste for some, but an essential taste for many – and for those who embrace it, a friend for life. The distillery began life in 1815 on the Isle of Islay and boasts a reputation for its heavy peat influence. Today, it keeps the whisky-making traditions of the region alive.
Producer’s Tasting Notes
Colour: Pale gold, a peek of the complexity created by the careful aging process.  ​​
Nose: Sweet pear drops, crisp green apples, custard, and warm pastry on the nose, then balanced with notes of cured smoked ham and cinnamon spice.
Palate: Rich and complex, with tropical pineapple, peach, and mango, then backdropped with a gentle hint of white pepper and barbecued orange rind.
Finish: A long and soft finish with evolved smoky aftertaste.
