Cristal was made for Tsar Alexander II – Emperor of Russia. After the collapse of the Russian champagne market in 1917 the wine has eventually made it for sale to the demos. This is a magnum bottle and the optimal size for ageing – a recommendation since the wine’s high proportion of Chardonnay makes it one of the most age-worthy of the prestige champagnes on the market.
