Maker’s Mark 46 is the recipe of Bill Samuels Junior, son of founders Bill and Margie, and the first new major expression since classic Maker’s was released in 1958.
Maker’s Mark began with one family’s quest to create a bourbon they enjoyed drinking and sharing with friends. As the world’s first premium bourbon, it changed the industry, and now enjoys a reputation around the world.
Maker’s 46 ages for longer with special seared French oak staves. This intensifies the caramelised wood sugars, enhancing its flavours of bold vanilla, oak, and caramel. The result is a bolder and more complex bourbon without the bitterness often found in longer-aged whiskies. 94 proof.
They carry out this process over a few months at a cooler temperature, allowing the bourbon to mature more slowly. It is then bottled at a strength of 47% ABV once the perfect balance is reached.
Enjoy Maker’s Mark 46 neat or with a touch of water, but it also shines in cocktails like a Manhattan or an Old Fashioned.
Tasting Notes
Nose: Hints of wood staves, caramel and sweetness.
Palate: Very intense flavours; a big crescendo of wood then blending perfectly with deep, complex and rich notes of vanilla and caramel.
Finish: Velvety subtle and pleasingly long.
