Winston Churchill famously drank Champagne – lots of it. The story goes that his favourite was Pol Roger’s wine. They have released their special vintage wine in homage to the man who must have been one of their best customers ever. The wine has more Pinot Noir than Chardonnay and is therefore a more opulent and forward style of Champagne on release. It is aged for longer on its lees than Pol Roger’s other wines giving it a distinct autolytic character. It is also only ever made in the best vintages – virtually guaranteeing that it is a special wine that will keep for an extended period of time in the right conditions. Made in memory of a man who was proverbially easily satisfied with the best.
