Marco Abella Mas Mallola DOQ Priorat is a complex and fruity red Spanish wine made from indigenous Priorat grape varietals.
The Marco family has made wines in the Priorat region since the 15th century. Records show their presence in Porrera during that time, as documented in Catalonia’s first census in 1497.
Marco Abella owns seven distinct estates situated on seven peaks ranging from 500 to 750 meters above sea level in the mountains surrounding the village of Porrera.
Today the estate is run by David Marco and OlÃvia Bayés.
Mas Mallola brings to life the virtues of the land of the Porrera village. The La Mallola plot lies at 650 metres above sea level. It is south oriented and has very particular grey and red slates.
This wine uses Garnacha and Cariñena grapes from the La Mallola area, both varietals indigenous to Priorat.
Mas Mallola then ages in French oak barrels for 15 months.
The influence of the vineyard soil (slate) and the particular climate create a true expression of terroir combined with flavour complexity and mature, balanced dark and deep fruit. It displays light earth flavours with dense velvety tannins, then a smooth finish.
