Named for its 81 proof, which translates to 40.5% ABV, Wild Turkey 81 Bourbon ages in American White Oak barrels. It’s a high rye mash with a powerful presence. These barrels are heavily charred with the deepest No.4 “Alligator” char, which then imparts powerful oak notes to the whisky.
This process gives Wild Turkey 81 a deep amber colour and a robust taste profile. With notes of sweet vanilla, pear, and hints of spice, this bourbon finishes with a flavour that is full and rich. The flavours are big, bold and complex.
The Wild Turkey distillery is based in Lawrenceburg, Kentucky, and has been producing bourbon since 1855. Its current operators are Jimmy and Eddie Russell, a father-and-son team who between them have won whisky awards around the world.
Wild Turkey 81 Bourbon exemplifies the brand’s commitment to quality and tradition in bourbon craftsmanship. It’s perfect enjoyed neat but also has a spicy kick which can hold its own in any cocktail.
Producer’s Tasting Notes
Nose: A spiced, oaky nose with vanilla fudge, rye spices and coffee beans.
Palate: Rich and thick, notes of caramel, manuka honey and fudge, hints of rhubarb and custard sweets and oily espresso beans.
Finish: Caramel and coffee, hints of Black Forest honey and Hot Cross Buns. Charred and spicy.
