The Hearach Single Malt Batch No.11 combines spirit matured in Ex-bourbon casks, Oloroso and Fino butts.

Specifically, the casks used are: Buffalo Trace (64%), Heaven Hill (21%), Oloroso (11%), Fino (4%).

The Hearach whiskies are the first historic single malts distilled on the Isle of Harris.

Their drams are the result of a thoughtful collaboration between people and place, coming together to craft elegant spirits with complexity and character.

The men and women of their island work closely with the natural world, crafting these distinctive Outer Hebridean whiskies.

Local people distil every drop of these new drams, creating unique spirits that they mature, blend, and bottle in their elemental landscape, and nowhere else.

They source water from Abhainn Cnoc a’ Charrain, which is among the softest of any Scottish distillery.

It contains very low levels of sodium and chlorine, likely carried by sea spray blowing across the isthmus of our village.

The rivers and streams of North Harris flow over Lewisian gneiss, some of the oldest rocks on Earth, estimated to be between 2.4 and 2.6 billion years old. The hardness of these ancient rocks contributes to the exceptionally low mineral content of our water.

After lengthy fermentations and hands-on distillation in their bespoke copper stills, they select oak casks from Kentucky and Spain.

The casks rest and mature by the shores of the Atlantic, near the west coast village of Ardhasaig.

Although the distillery lies at a northern latitude, the Gulf Stream moderates the island’s oceanic climate.

They believe this consistent climate enhances the maturation of their whisky.

Tasting Notes

The aroma opens with a rich tapestry of sweet vanilla and toasted oak, intertwined with hints of fresh orchard fruits like pear and apple. A subtle whiff of honeyed malt and a touch of spiced citrus create a layered and inviting bouquet.

On the palate, Batch No.11 presents a harmonious blend of creamy toffee, dark chocolate, and roasted nuts. A gentle spice of cinnamon and clove adds complexity, while a whisper of smoky peat provides depth and character. The mouthfeel is smooth and velvety, with a perfect balance of sweetness and spice.

The finish is long and satisfying, with lingering notes of caramelized sugar and a gentle, warming spice. A faint trace of vanilla and oak lingers pleasantly, inviting you to savor the experience a bit longer.
