Bodegas Hidalgo Manzanilla La Gitana

Manzanilla La Gitana follows the traditional methods set by the governing body of the Denomination of Origin ‘Manzanilla-Sanlúcar de Barrameda.’

Vines grow in Albariza soil in the ‘Balbaina’ and ‘Miraflores’ areas of the Jerez Superior District (approximately 200 Ha).

Bodegas Hidalgo produce it solely from free-run juice, fermenting it naturally with the yeast present on the grapes in water-cooled stainless steel tanks.

After fortifying it to 15% ABV with grape alcohol, they age it in American oak casks using the ‘solera’ or fractional blending system, in the coastal town of Sanlúcar de Barrameda.

Throughout maturation, a veil of yeast or ‘flor’ develops, ensuring a light, dry taste.

Only in Sanlúcar de Barrameda can flor thrive year-round, giving Manzanilla its distinctive character.

Bodegas Hidalgo-La Gitana S.A. exclusively bottles La Gitana under its original brand label, ‘La Gitana,’ one of Spain’s oldest and most popular wine brands.

Producer’s Tasting Notes

This sherry is dry and refreshing, with hints of apple, straw, and nuttiness, all complemented by a salty tang. It’s lightweight, subtle, and well-balanced, making it a perfect introduction to the world of sherry.
