One of the Cru villages, Fleurie has been called by some “The Queen of Beaujolais” because the wines are “feminine” – and presumably regal, and authoritative.
Carbonic maceration ensures that red fruits come through clearly in this wine, though a period of ageing in a variety of media (oak barrel & stainless steel vat) and blending before bottling ensures that it takes on colour, a bit of body, and some tannin. This makes it a slightly fuller and intense Beaujolais that will keep for some years although we hasten to add that it is showing very well presently too.
