Charles Frey Frankenstein Grand Cru Blend is a dry, mineral blend of several Alsatian grape varieties. The palate is lively, poised and zesty.

The Charles Frey winery was established at the beginning of the 18th century and is still family-owned, with the third generation of full-time winemakers now dedicated to the business. They own 14 hectares of vines across five distinct terroirs. The Frankenstein Grand Cru terroir, where this wine grows, has south-facing hillsides surrounded by granite. This gives the wines a remarkable minerality and salinity.

It is a field blend of four different varieties aged in earthenware vessels – it cannot bear the name of the Grand Cru because blends are not permitted. Due to this, they named it Frankenstein, referencing both the name of the site and the blending of different varieties that go into it.

Bold, complex and exotic, the nose presents layers of mango, pear and peach fruit, spicy ginger and vanilla and a hint of florals. The palate opens broad, with ripe and intense fruit notes and lots of sweet baking spices (nutmeg, cardamom). Then, powerful yet balanced acidity comes in to maintain the freshness. This wine is drinking well now but will gain even more complexity if left longer in the bottle.

Enjoy Charles Frey Frankenstein Grand Cru Blend chilled.
