Chateau Gris is an 18th century building in the middle of a 3.5 hectare walled vineyard now owned by the Bichot Family. Since the 1920s the wines made from grapes grown in that vineyard are allowed Chateau Gris as a designation of origin. It is a monopole vineyard that is classed as 1er Cru for the production of red wines from Pinot Noir only.
This Chateau Gris Nuits St Georges is one of those and was made from hand-harvested fruit that was fermented for 3 weeks in temperature-controlled conical oak vats. The wine is then aged in French oak barrels (25% new) for 12 to 15 months depending on the vintage. It shows a bright nose of red and dark fruits with well-integrated clove, toast, and roast coffee from the barrels. This is a wine ready to drink on release but that would benefit from laying down for 5 to 7 years after release.
