Darroze Les Grands Assemblages 40 Year Old Armagnac is a powerfully oaky expression of a fine brandy from the Francis Darroze house.
In 1974, Francis Darroze founded his business as a trader and producer of vintage Bas-Armagnacs. He relied on his many years of experience, tasting, and visits to the ageing cellars of Bas-Armagnac. Â Since then he has intensified his search for the best vineyards, the best soils of Bas-Armagnac.
The exceptional complexity and finesse of this 40 year old Armagnac is a direct result of careful maturation in top quality oak barrels.
The quality of the oak used in the ageing process is very important, since the correct oak tones will bring complexity and finesse to the Armagnac. The wooden character of the aroma and flavour become apparent after 40 years of staying in contact with the wood.
This is an elegant expression of the Armagnac maker’s art, adding layers of mature flavour to soft and fruity eaux-de-vie without swamping the spirit’s character.
The nose is dominated by aromas of oak, but also hints of grape skins, dried berries, marmalade, cherries, and gooseberries. Leather and toffee gradually appear too. The palate is silky, with a mix of spice, oak and fruit. An absolutely exceptional spirit.
