Since 1984 Bodegas Aragonesas has been producing top quality expressions of Garnacha. Some may even say that they are obsessed with Garnacha. The Fagus is one of their top wines, produced from 40-50 year old vines in the Campo de Borja region. Situated South East of Rioja, downstream on the river Ebro towards the city of Zaragoza. Lesser known than Rioja but by no means lesser in quality.
This wine is 100% Garnacha (aka Grenache in France) made from carefully selected parcels of only the best grapes. The wine undergoes a 2 week period of contact with the skins in order to produce a deep colour and firm silky tannins. Together with malolactic conversion, the wine then spends 10 months in French oak, after which only the best barrels are selected for bottling. This is a deep, rich and complex wine with lots of meat, leather, tobacco, spice on top of layers of juicy red fruit and vanilla. Full bodied, sumptuous and smooth. This wine could easily give a run for the Southern Rhone’s money. It has quality, style and class. Very good value mature Garnacha from a top Bodega.
