Gaja Sorì San Lorenzo Barbaresco DOCG

The Gaja tradition started in 1859 in Piedmont. Five generations of the Gaja family have nurtured and built on the dreams of the previous generation.

In 1937 Giovanni Gaja took over the reins of the company and it was at this time the labels changed presenting the famous Gaja name first and foremost on the label as we see it today.

Sorì San Lorenzo is a Nebbiolo powerhouse.  It takes its name from Sorì – a south facing hill and San Lorenzo – the patron saint protecting Alba Cathedral.

Aptly named, as the vineyard was church property until 1964, when it was purchased by the Gaja family.

At just over 3 hectares, this vineyard is a stone’s throw from Barbaresco’s old town centre and is home to old vines which yield exceptionally rich wines with great ageing potential.

Producer’s Tasting Notes

Dense aromas of compote of quince and strawberry jam reveal the complexity of Sorì San Lorenzo.

It is extremely rich showing red apple and pomegranate, together with notes of fully-ripe strawberry and blackberry.

In the mouth, it flows carrying explosive but refined flavours.

The entrance is reviving, a persistent feeling touches every part of the mouth, the sip leaves a refreshing and powerful sensation.

The tannins are easily detectable but silky. Yet, it shows lingering yellow and gorse flowers on the nose.
