Hanewald-Schwerdt Riesling Auslese is a delightful medium-sweet wine with lime, apricot and fresh acidity on the finish. This is Riesling in a classic German style at its best.
Founded in 1955, Weingut Hanewald-Schwerdt is a family owned and operated estate in Leistadt.
Today, cousins Thomas Hanewald and Stephan Schwerdt run the estate. They are members of ‘Generation Riesling’, a body made up of the best young winemaking talent in Germany.
The secret of their handcrafted wines is a unique limestone reef which dominates all the sites around Leistadt. The vines are old and surrounded by a protected natural resort in the shade of the Haardt mountains.
The grapes for this wine were hand-harvested and then wild-fermented at controlled temperatures to preserve the individuality and character of the terroir. It also spent a period of time on lees for a rounder texture.
Enjoy Hanewald-Schwerdt Riesling Auslese with delicately spiced Thai or Indian dishes. It also shines alongside tangy soft cheeses like goat’s cheese.
Producer’s Tasting Notes
Expect aromas of citrus fruit, with some delicate stone fruit and floral nuances. The palate is juicy, with some tropical fruit, candied fruit and then hints of herbs. It is lively and mineral, with good acidity balancing the sweet finish.
