Henriques & Henriques 15 Year Old Verdelho is as close as it gets to a classic Madeira wine. Made in the Madeira islands of Portugal, this fortified wine deserves a resurgence in its reputation.
It shows the toffee and caramel characteristics that are typical of the ageing involved in the winemaking, as well as the rapier-like acidity that keeps these wines feeling fresh on the palate despite their considerable age and complexity. Medium dry but with pleasant figgy notes on the finish, this is really one to savour.
Henriques & Henriques 15 Year Old Verdelho makes for an excellent pudding wine. It also shines with creamy blue cheeses such as Stilton or Roquefort.
