Ichiro Akuto created Ichiro’s Malt Double Distilleries 2021, a limited-edition blended malt whisky, using single malts from two Japanese distilleries, Chichibu and Mars.

In the past, Japanese distillers typically did not share stocks as distillers do in Scotland, preferring to keep production in-house. However, this is beginning to change, as seen in the collaboration between Chichibu and Mars.

Ichiro Akuto blended whisky from Chichibu, produced in Saitama, with whisky from Mars distillery, which sits over 2,600 feet above sea level, resulting in slower maturation and a smooth, elegant style with remarkable complexity.

Ichiro’s Malt Double Distilleries 2021 opens with notes of ripe pineapple and mango, accompanied by a touch of green banana and lemon. The palate features rich vanilla custard, salted caramel, and cinnamon, finishing with burnt orange and black pepper.
