Kilkerran Single Malt is the product of Mitchell’s Glengyle Distillery, re-opened in 2004, after closing in 1925. Kilkerran Heavily Peated Batch 9 matured in 90% bourbon and 10% sherry casks. This adds a fruity, sweet character alongside its savoury peat centre.
It was bottled in 2023 at 59.2% ABV and there is no added colour and no chill filtering.
Kilkerran Single Malt is produced at the historic Campbeltown distillery, Glengyle, originally founded by the Mitchell family and owned by the J&A Mitchell group since its re-build and resumption of production in 2004. All production takes place onsite, from malting the barley to bottling the finished whisky.
Sharing a production team and calendar with the neighbouring Springbank Distillery, Glengyle has a short production period of around three months per year.
Enjoy Kilkerran Heavily Peated Batch 9 neat or with a splash of water to fully unlock its complex flavour profile. It also shines on the rocks.
Producer’s Tasting Notes
Nose: Creamy butterscotch and caramel notes in the beginning, with the development of notes of rye bread and tea leaf.
Palate: A familiar oiliness and smokiness appears on the palate, with notes of Iberico ham and brandy snaps.
Finish: A gentle finish, there are notes of lemon sherbet, honeycomb and mint, with the peat smoke then carrying through to the finish.
