Maker’s Mark‘s recipe is not a secret: 70% corn, 14% Malted Barley and 16% Red Winter Wheat. Soft red winter wheat, instead of the usual rye, creates a one-of-a-kind, full-flavoured bourbon that’s easy to drink.
To ensure consistency, distillers rotate every barrel by hand and age Maker Mark’s ages to taste, not time. It usually takes between six to seven years for the whisky to be ready.
The barrels contain a ‘ladder’ of toasted new French oak staves, enriching it with additional layers of spice, sweetness, and vanilla.
Each and every bottle of Maker’s Mark is still hand-dipped in the brand’s signature red wax at our distillery in Loretto, KY., just like their founder Bill Samuels, Sr. would have wanted.
The result is fruity and rich with lovely notes of spiced honey and mixed peels, a little malmsey, hazelnut and a touch of cut fruit. Toasty oak provides a powerful backbone.
It’s bottled at a perfectly weighted 47% ABV for a hugely approachable dram.
Enjoy Maker’s Mark neat, on the rocks or as part of classic whisky-forward cocktails like Manhattans.
Producer’s Tasting Notes
Nose: Sweet oak, vanilla, bright fruit and wheat prevail in the nose.
Palate: Sweet with balance of oak, vanilla and fruity essences.
Finish: Smooth and creamy with a pleasant soft spice and then a clean finish.
