The 2011 blend for Vesuvio was 40% Touriga Nacional – which imparts a rose and violet characteristic to the wine – and 45% Touriga Franca with the remaining percentage made up of obscure native Portuguese varieties. The Touriga Franca provided tannins for the structure and longevity of the wine as well as berry fruits and more floral aromas. Liquorice, blueberries and pepper are displayed on the palate. A fine wine from an outstanding vintage that will reap rewards from cellaring for the next 50 years or more.
