The Diz family, originally from Villanova de Arousa in Galicia, Spain, crossed the Atlantic in 1881 and settled in South America. In Argentina, where they first settled, they dedicated themselves to cultivating the land, developing it to produce meat and populate the area.
In 1998, they moved to Uruguay and fell deeply in love with the country, especially the Maldonado mountain region. They saw enormous potential for cultivating fruit and vegetables, producing honey and meat, and creating finished products for an increasingly demanding public.
In 2003, the family established La Oriental in Paraje José Ignacio. They planted olive trees in 2004, followed by red vines in 2005.
Their first commercial harvest of both olives and vines came in 2008, which they sold to third parties. It wasn’t until 2011 that the family produced wine under their own label, Sierra Oriental.
Sierra Oriental practices sustainable farming on their 12 acres of vineyards, using natural processes and minimal intervention in vineyard management.
Juicy dark fruit flavours along with coffee, chocolate, vanilla, blueberries, quince. with subtle mineral notes. The juicy character follows through on the palate, a very laid back wine finishing with plenty of freshness. An easy drinking style, very Moorish.
