This expression combines equal parts of 50% malted and 50% unmalted barley, following the traditional single pot still method. Teeling’s Dublin distillery triple distils the whiskey before fully maturing it in virgin Swedish Oak casks. Swedish Oak, known for its density and robustness, imparts unique characteristics to the spirit, enhancing its complexity and depth.
Nose: Vibrant citrus fruits intertwine with subtle caramel and the earthy sweetness of cooked barley, creating an inviting aroma.
Palate: The palate reveals a rich and herbaceous profile, featuring notes of candied ginger, almond, and treacle. These flavours develop slowly, starting off light and floral, with a hint of citrus fruit that seems almost playful. Over time, heavier notes come into play, including a fascinating spiciness paired with toasted oak. Mint, dark chocolate, and a bright cherry note emerge, with the mouthfeel becoming almost oily, the texture rich and heavy. Sweet notes of molasses and hints of walnut oil are rounded off by a light tannin note.
Finish: The finish lingers on the palate for a long time, dry and with a light pepper spice that pleasantly rounds off the flavour. A pinch of nutmeg and the omnipresent toasted oak wood accompany the final moments, while the vanilla note gently fades away.
