WhistlePig FarmStock Rye Crop No.002 is a delightful rye whiskey from WhistlePig’s limited edition series. It aims to highlight the distillery’s “100% Triple Terroir Vision”.
FarmStock Rye pays tribute to the WhistlePig’s grain-to-glass process. The producers craft it with their own grain, distil it with water from their well. They then age it in local, sustainably sourced Vermont Oak barrels.
They bottle it onsite at the WhistlePig Farm. For their core FarmStock expression, they blend their own whiskey with older Ryes to create a well-balanced, easy-drinking profile.
Rye Crop 002, composed of 32% Triple Terroir, celebrates the youthful bounty of their 2-year-old estate whiskey.  A 6-year-old whiskey from MPGI in Indiana makes up a further 45% of the blend, while the final 23% is 10-year-old whiskey from Alberta Distillers in Canada. Peter Lynch, the distillery’s master blender worked closely with the master distiller, Dave Pickerell, to perfect the final blend.
This produces a white pepper and oak spice upfront with a long finish highlighted by hints of butterscotch and chocolate, but with a subtly savoury edge. It’s fresh and fruity yet displays a deep mellow character.
Limited Release: Rye Crop 002 of FarmStock was available only in 2018, limited by the size of WhistlePig’s first harvest of rye grain, which yielded about 150 barrels.
