Aloxe-Corton has a long tradition of grape growing and wine making, the first recorded evidence is since 696 A.D and is still classed as one of the best examples of Pinot Noir in the Cote d’Or. It produces robust and age-worthy wines.
The Premier Cru vineyards within the Clos des Marechaudes Monopole site, sit at the foot of the hill of Corton, literally just below the Grand Cru demarcations.
This area is predominately comprised of Pinot vines, with just a third being devoted to the white wines from Chardonnay of Corton-Charlemagne.
The wine is aged for 14 to 16 months in oak (25 – 40% new), which imparts some sweet spice, delicate herb characteristics and some smoky and toasty notes as well.
This is a wine that is easily capable of fifteen years’ development in cellar from the vintage.
