Domaine de Coquin Menetou-Salon is a bright, refreshing Sauvignon Blanc which shares many characteristics with the nearby Sancerre.
Domaine de Coquin dates back to the middle ages and used to be part of Château de Coquin which no longer exists.
The vineyards lie across three villages within the appellation, Menetou-Salon, Parassy and Vignoux sous les Aix.
The Sauvignon Blanc vines are planted on South West facing slopes of Kimmeridgian limestone. The soil contains a scattering of ancient oyster shells.
Viticulture here is sensitive to the environment with soil ploughing and grass cover crops rather the use of excessive chemicals. This preserves the potential of the terroir.
During winemaking, after tasting, the must is blended in order to produce more complex wines. The must vividness and freshness combined with grape’s matter and must’s roundness confers powerful colours and tastes to the wine. The entire process, from the vine to the wine, no longer follows systematic operations.
Pale straw yellow in colour, this Sauvignon Blanc displays a vibrant and aromatic floral and citrus nose, with gentle citrus and mineral notes on the palate. Presenting a tender attack, the mouth reveals a touch of vividness conferring this wine a perfect balance then a delightful finish.
